Ambulatory Blood Pressure (ABP)

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring allows regular measurements of blood pressure to be performed over a 24 hour period and requires a blood pressure cuff to be worn around the arm.  Patients cannot shower during the monitoring period as the equipment must stay connected to the body and cannot get wet.  Monitors are fitted by a Cardiac Technologist and take around 10 minutes to connect and must be returned to the department the following day.  Blood pressure monitoring is used to check for hypertension (high blood pressure) or signs of low blood pressure which may be related to dizziness or fainting.  A referral is required for all tests. For enquiries or to make a booking contact 5454 8017.
