Crisis Care

If you, or a loved one, is in need of urgent assistance please call the Psychiatric Regional Triage Service on 1300 363 788. This number provides access to all of our services. This service operates 24 hours, 7 days a week and acts as the single point of entry into our services. The team accepts and screen all referrals and co-ordinates admission to the acute in-patient units.

Enhanced Crisis Assessment and Treatment (ECAT) is based in the emergency department at Bendigo hospital. The team are on hand to assess and treat patients who present to emergency which means waiting times for these patients are reduced.

Bendigo Police Ambulance Clinical Early Response Unit (PACER) provides timely assessment and early intervention by experienced police officers and senior medical health clinicians within the community setting for the management and resolution os mental health crises during the hours of 3-11pm, 7 days a week.

Short Term Treatment team (STTT) is a service that provides mental health assessments and short term treatment follow up for people within our community that experience acute mental illness and is available 7 days a week. 

The Adult Acute Unit is a 35 bed adult acute psychiatric inpatient unit which operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week. It is co-located on the grounds of Bendigo hospital. Admission is via the single point of entry triage service. The unit has two distinct areas, the open ward which is for acutely unwell patients in need of hospitalisation who can be treated in the least restrictive environment. The other is the High Dependency Unit for patients requiring a safe and secure environment that provides more intensive support and treatment.

The  Parent Infant Unit (PIU) is a mental health unit specifically designed to allow parents and care givers with a psychiatric illness to receive specialist perinatal services while admitted as an inpatient with their infant, the primary focus of PIU is to provide aassessment and short-term mental health treatment and care and strengthen the primary care giver - infant relationship. PIU has 5 beds and the service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. PIU strives to deliver a high standard of treatment and care to parents in their third trimester of pregnancy through to the infant attaining the age of 12 months.
