Bendigo Health has launched Thank You Bendigo, giving the community an opportunity to say thanks for coming through a tough year.

The Victoria Premier announced the 2020 AFL Grand Final public holiday would be renamed Thank You Day. This is to recognise the efforts of Victorians during the global coronavirus pandemic.

An interactive mural has been created on the Monash Building at Bendigo Health where people can take photos. The community and local businesses are encouraged to share their stories and messages on social media using the hashtag #ThankYouBendigo.

Bendigo Health Chief Executive Officer, Peter Faulkner said the week is about celebrating how far we have come and the way we have adapted with the times.

“We’d really like to thank our community for all the support they’ve extended to healthcare workers,” Mr Faulkner said.

“The community have made our job that little bit easier with their support by doing the right thing. With our harsh visitor restrictions and our screening of people into the hospital they have just been so tolerant. And those things keep our staff safe.”

A Facebook event called Thank You Bendigo has been created, where the community is encouraged to share their stories and speak about who they want to thank.

Bendigo Health is working alongside the City of Greater Bendigo to celebrate the week and spread cheer in the city.

City of Greater Bendigo CEO, Craig Niemann said our community thanks Bendigo Health and other health providers.

“This is about our community saying thank you – acknowledging the work Bendigo Health have done; their leadership and responsiveness to the pandemic has been exceptional and something that has really helped the region,” Mr Niemann said.

Thank You Bendigo begins on Monday 19 October and finishes on Friday 23 October.

Local arts collective Nacho Station created the mural.
