Volunteering 

Our volunteers are integral to the health service and provide invaluable support to staff, patients and visitors. Bendigo Health is supported by almost 300 volunteers who help out by generously giving their time, energy and care to the patients, staff, residents and visitors. They assist in many areas across the organisation including palliative care, intensive care, emergency, inpatient rehabilitation, discharge lounge and over five residential aged care facilities. 

Our music and arts  volunteers support Bendigo Health by creating a warm environment to enhance our patients experience during their cancer care. This may include:

  • Playing music
  • Choirs
  • Painting
  • Crafts.

How to become a Bendigo Health volunteer?

Requirements

To be eligible to become a music and/or arts volunteer at Bendigo Health, all volunteers must:

  • Be 18 years or older. (If under 18 would require adult supervision) 
  • Undergo a National Volunteer Police Check (paid for by Bendigo Health)
  • Working with Children Check
  • Complete relevant Bendigo Health orientation
  • Sign and agree to our conditions of volunteering inclusive of adhering to privacy, confidentiality, code of conduct and working towards our vision and values
  • Keep us updated with any changes in availability or contact details
  • Undergo an audition

Application Process

Please only begin the application process if you are able to meet the above requirements. 

The application process for prospective music and/or arts volunteers involves: 

  • attending an interview (please bring along completed police check and statutory declaration forms to the interview). You will also be required to audition
  • police check
  • statutory declaration 
  • two positive reference checks carried out on each volunteer (one must be a work/volunteer referee/music/arts)
  • undertake an orientation relevant to the area
  • placement interview 
  • All volunteers at Bendigo Health will require a Police Check and a Working with Childrens Check. Please access the information here: www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au  this Working with Children Check is free for volunteers.
