If you have had your spleen removed (asplenic) or have a spleen that is not functioning properly (hyposplenism) you have an increased lifelong risk of bacterial infection. This means in order to remain healthy you may need specific antibiotic therapy and immunizations.
Asplenic and hyposplenic patients should be entered on the Spleen Australia registry where you will be able to access individualized education kits, yearly newsletters and telephone/email support.
