The School Holiday Volunteer Program commenced in 2019 to support young people wishing to gain experience in a healthcare environment.
The program is run during mid-term breaks throughout the year, excluding the Christmas holidays.
Students undertake three consecutive days of volunteering, including orientation. During these three days, students are matched with volunteers as they rotate through various departments. This includes both clinical and non-clinical settings with an aim to provide a holistic look at healthcare and the various career opportunities for students to consider.
Clinical areas usually include Emergency Department, Discharge Lounge, Wards, Clinics, Palliative Care and Residential Aged Care. Non-clinical roles usually include Volunteer Services, People and Culture, Health Information Services and Education Departments.
Students may also participate in Foundation and Fundraising events if scheduled.
Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of participation.
