The Community Dental Service is a 31-chair clinic located at the Clinical Services Campus. The clinic provides quality emergency, general, denture and preventative dental care to all eligible age groups.

What we do

Toothaches
No referral required

Adults aged over 18 years seeking services must have a current Healthcare or Pension card. All emergencies undergo a triage assessment and are placed into one of five categories. A co-payment fee applies. The treatment timeframe depends on the urgency of the dental problem. Treatment is provided to alleviate pain in cases of toothaches, dental swellings, broken teeth and fillings. Child patients with a toothache are a priority.

Check Ups
No referral required

Adults aged over 18 years seeking services must have a current Healthcare or Pension Card. A co-payment fee applies. To receive treatment clients need to be placed on a waiting list. Service also includes the provision of dentures where recommended by the dental practitioner.

Our Dental Services are provided by Dentists, Oral Health Therapists, Oral Health Educators, Dental Assistants and Latrobe students studying to be Dentists or Oral Health Therapists.

As part of the Dental service Latrobe University operate a Dental Teaching Clinic for future dental professionals.

The service also delivers various preventative oral health care programs within the community.

Children eligible for treatment at a Public Dental Clinic
No referral required

  • Anyone under 13 years of age, irrespective of family income.
  • Aged between 13-17 with a Health Care card or Pension Card
  • Aged between 2-17 years who are eligible for Child Dental Benefits Scheme
  • Asylum seeker *Refugee

Do I need to pay anything?
No, you will not have any out-of-pocket costs when your children are treated in a public dental clinic. All public dental clinics bulk bill treatments for eligible children.

Bendigo Health and Latrobe University work in partnership to provide a teaching facility within the clinic.

How to refer your patient

Patients do not require a referral to access this service

The following people are eligible for our service: 

Children and young people:

  • All children aged 0 – 12 years, irrespective of family income.
  • Young people aged 13 – 17 years with health care or pensioner concession card or dependents of concession card holders
  • 2-17 years who are eligible for Child Dental Benefits Scheme

Adults aged 18 years and over, who are health care or pensioner concession card holders or dependents of concession card holders (a co-payment fee applies) 

Children age 13-17 who do not have a Health Care Card or Pension Card can click here to check their child’s eligibility for the Child Dental Benefits Scheme

The following groups have priority access to care:

  • Children (0-12 years) and young people (13 – 17 years)
  • Homeless people and people at risk of homelessness
  • Pregnant women
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • Registered clients of mental health and disability services, supported by a letter of recommendation from their case manager or staff of special developmental schools.
