Emergency Management

The Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit's (LMPHU) role is to be aware of local emergency health risks and where appropriate, provide a place-based support to the Department of Health-led emergency management responses.

In 2022, floods affected large areas of the Loddon Mallee region with a significant proportion of our community impacted. The LMPHU were involved in various flood response activities including:

Coordinated outreach vaccination visits to affected communities to deliver JEV, COVID-19 and influenza vaccination.
Assisted with flood readiness for residential aged care facilities, emergency relief centres, temporary accommodation sites and incident control centres.
Communications and engagement; supported production and distribution of print media promoting public health messages and participated in community information sessions
Worked closely with the state government led Incident Management Team

Severe Weather Planning

The impacts of severe weather can be daunting. If you need support, there is help available:

Flood and storm information and support can be found on the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care website and natural disaster support on the Services Australia website.
Once you’ve received the all-clear to return home from your local council or SES, the Recovery Basics: looking after yourself during and after disasters booklet from the Red Cross has information on the physical, emotional and mental toll of disasters.
The ABC Emergency website also provides information on general recovery, flood, bushfire, storm or cyclone and heatwaves.
During severe weather, please listen to instructions given by emergency services. Important messages are often played on your local ABC radio.
