  • Authority to set up vaccine clinic given by Director, LMPHU (outbreak/wastewater detection/priority of need)
  • LMPHU Public Health Officer to coordinate setting up the vaccine clinic

Setting up vaccine clinic

  • Contact LGA stakeholders to support selection and set up of clinic
  • Potential site assessed physically by Public Health Officer
  • Car park close by and preferably near public transport
  • Waiting area pre- & post-vaccine (socially distanced)
  • Facilities for staff e.g. rest area, toilets
  • Process for consent in place including privacy
  • Protocol for documentation of vaccine receipt, labelling and use
  • Ready access to emergency equipment e.g. adrenaline, oxygen, defibrillator
  • Contact police for traffic control if needed

  • Waste disposal e.g. sharps containers
  • Water and meals for staff (if not local)
  • Technology to access briefing meetings for updated guidelines

Cold chain management

  • Adequate number and capacity of refrigerators to store vaccines, with refrigerators to be maintained and monitored at 2°– 8° Celsius
  • Appropriate refrigerators and opaque containers to store vaccine syringes that have been prepared for administration under appropriate temperature conditions and protected from light from the time they are prepared until the time they are administered
  • Procedures for receipt of vaccine doses including packaging acceptance, temperature check
  • Sites must be able to adhere to the Strive for 5 guidelines and will need to have or be able to develop policies for cold chain management
