The Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA) has advised of a new anticipated shortage of Bicillin (benzathine benzylpenicilline)1.2 million unit prefilled syringes – anticipated from 20 December 2024 to 10 January 2025​ 
 
A temporary importation and supply of an overseas-registered product will be available from 25 November 2024 to cover any potential supply gaps. This product is also listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)​. 
 
The ongoing shortage of Bicillin L-A (benzathine benzylpenicillin tetrahydrate) 600,000 unit prefilled syringes for injection is estimated to continue until April 2025. ​ 
 
The TGA will publish information about the new anticipated shortage shortly and continue to monitor the supply of benzathine benzylpenicillin products​.
