Notification of a Case

Notification of positive cases or outbreaks can be direct from stakeholders or via the Department of Health. Information on when and how to notify a communicable disease is detailed here: Click here to notify or learn more

 Managing a Case
  • Each notified case is reviewed by Epidemiologists to determine if further investigation is required
  • Public Health Officers manage cases based on the relevant Communicable Disease Protocols. Please see Current communicable diseases managed by LMPHU
  • Where necessary, each case is interviewed to determine:
    • Relevant contacts
    • Attendance at high-risk sensitive settings
    • Assessment of current vaccination status
  • Where required by a risk assessment, contacts and high-risk sensitive settings are investigated to limit transmission
  • CPs and/or hospitals are involved to provide clinical support and case data
  • Public health advice is provided to case, contacts and high-risk settings
  • Case and contact documentation is then entered via the secure public health database
